Christmas is just a few days away, so I've decided to write every couple of days about the people and places I love, for locals and tourists. Many will be things most folks don't think about or have never visited. This is kind of a Hot Springs secret back door. I hope you'll let me know what you think when you visit or try something new..
My first love letter goes to La Brajas Dulceria, a beautiful store on Ouachita Avenue owned by a wonderful local family. They have all kinds of crazy candy from around the world that's fun to look at and test. But let me tell you, it's the Tres Leches Cakes that have blown me away. Now, I've never had a Tres Leches cake before so I don't have anything to compare them to, but i promise, these little nine dollar treasures are crazy
delicious....and beautiful. Each cake is so so moist and juicy and delicious it's really hard to stop eating them, even with a plastic spoon in your car.. They are so amazing I've decided to give them to my 50 clients at the radio station because I want everyone to experience the magic of La Brajas Dulceria
The second love letter tonight goes to Doc Penny's Billiard's. I'm not a pool player but Doc Penny's is the kind of place you'll want to hang out for an hour. Get a delicious Simple Simon Pizza, kick back and relax in their theater style seats.
Here's the deal, Doc Penny's doesn't feel like a pool hall, it's lovely, maybe even elegant, with lots of tables and seating. Mike, the owner, is a man born of optimism, vision and generosity. If you need a quick lesson, that's just fine. And he's constantly organizing tournaments to benefit local charities. That's just his deal.
You can take your date, take your kids, take you mom, it's that comfortable and welcoming.
I know, It's hard to find activities you can do with you kids, and have a moment together. Doc Penny's is the place you've been looking for. The food is great, the amazing jukebox is extraordinary and the staff is absolutely exceptional.
I love you La Brajas Dulceria and Doc Penny's. You're the reason Hot Springs is so wonderful for locals and visitors.
